This war-torn country, Afghanistan, does not have any petrol to crave for, nor the riches like India that tempted the Europeans. But then, it has not only attracted many countries it has made them fight for the land. Unlike China alone bordering Nepal - which had its 250 years old Nepal creating royal family wiped out from the map followed by its replacement by capitalists masquerading as communists, adding Russia and the rest to its borders, Afghanistan has seen much worse killings than the killing of 17000 people in Nepal. Admittedly, this country which also lost its royal family in its tragic history has even earned the title ‘war-torn country’. Almost like the workers led solidarity movement of Lech Walesa in Poland, yes students have played a major role in bringing new political systems in many countries. Going even further, Pakistan taught and used students in Afghanistan – the Taliban - have not only become the cause of the change, but they have also become the enemy killing fighters too. Although not quite regarded as the Gurkhas – the bravest of the brave – their belief in Allah and their persistence has made them a fighting machine that was able to defeat the mighty powers like the USSR earlier, and the US now! Yes, all knew about the US gradually losing money, like from the coffers of the then USSR; and all knew that one day it had to go. But not this soon. Rumour even had it that the Afghan army was infiltrated by the Taliban fighters that made the inept US not willing to rule further. But in figurative terms, despite it being the Darius fighting against the much smaller force of Alexander, not only not winning the battle itself, nobody expected this sudden killing of Darius.  Yes, while the sudden US withdrawal that was condemned by all, and which almost erased the superpower status of the US was shocking, the lightning speed of the advancement of the Taliban without a fight by the massively powerful army was a bigger shock. As an addition to the surprise, the withdrawing armies neither hid the arms with which they were supposed to fight the Taliban nor did they destroy them. It remains to be investigated whether it was the infiltration of the army by the Taliban that did so and led the not winning but the loss-making US withdrawal or was it the not to fight orders from above as per the plan. Even if it was both, they fit a greater plan. In any case, the Taliban not only feasted on the arms offered on the platter without much effort, but those gadgets would also be enough to make them a mighty force in future wars. Are the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Iran listening? Furthermore, while the Afghans working for the kuffar run institutes trying to flee the Taliban is very understandable, but with the PEW research saying more than 99% of Afghans prefer sharia, them fearing the Taliban, even if explained by the economy is a surprise. Burka preferring woman not preferring sharia doesn’t surprise less. The Taliban: The prestige of both the US and the Taliban have been behaving like the graphs of stocks and shares. When the latter was encouraged by the West to fight the Soviets those guys were heroes and now they are the villains. And, the US was a saviour of the world. Now it is seen as a wimp. As if to say the Taliban guys are not entirely so, these villains don’t seem to have gone to loot and kill in the neighbouring countries like Iran and the -sthan nations. They seem to show discipline. Unlike democratic nations, however, they do have their own belief in Islam, which guides their social structure, offers them the zest to resolutely pray to Allah and gives them the resilience to fight long battles from the mountainous caves. They may not impose their social structure on others, but in the territory these Allah fearing people declare Islamic sharia they follow the rules of the sharia. The western-educated may criticise them as being mediaeval and not even being Islamic, but discarding the moderates and giving a cursory look at the Islamic textual rules reveals that even if not perfect, their ways are much closer to the Islamic sharia. They are certainly far closer to Islam than the kuffar led government. Thus, if Pew research results and the Afghans were true, most Afghans should welcome them as a preferred regime like the glee shown by Sharia preferring Muslims in Pakistan.
